nervous, yet confident.
sorrowful, yet elated.
anxious, yet excited.
fearful, yet calm.

nervousness, despair, anxiety, fear, doubt.
take it all away.

Batch Outing
Yes, we got sumthing done. So we have chosen to go for a opt lunch @ Cathay @ 1pm. Then a movie followed by opt LAN on Fri. The following is an FAQ

Q: "Watch movie damn waste time sia! You say need bonding, movie where got bonding?"
A: Find another non-sport activity that has bonding.

Q: "Now got what movie?"
A: Departures, Marley and Me, Suspect X. I will either choose the first or second. Go there choose.

Q: "Wa lao LAN, mind as well go home play com.
A: Err, opt LAN. Besides, it has highest bonding rate.

Q: "What if can't make it?"
A: Sorry, can't make everyone go, I will try accomodate everyone next time.

I can't think of any other questions. So why not just type out your questions on tagboard and I will answer. This is summary of outing details.

Cathay (near Dhoby Ghaut MRT)
1 pm
Ends either after movie or anytime after that.

All of you should know by now the we will be marching this Sunday, 15 March, for St Patrick's day. We are very privileged to have the honour of leading this parade so please be prepared.

Prepare Ceremonial Parts
- polish badges
- polish boots
- shoe white cummer belt
- iron cummer bund (if crumpled)
- shoe white forage cap (if necessary)
- starch tunic
- get cardboard for shoulder title
- make sure your green socks do not stink
- ensure your lanyard is not damaged
- get a green wire or rubber band to tie lanyard

We will also be playing some songs so please practise and memorise them by saturday.

Songs to be learnt and memorised
- Ireland's call (will have the score with you but try memorising)
- 76 Trombones
- Josephian's March
- Manchester
- Thank you for the music (will have the score with you but try memorising)
- Hawaii-5-o (will have the score with you but try memorising)
- School Rally (should have memorised this last year already)

We've already been featured in the newspaper regarding this event so please do not disgrace SJIMB by screwing up. And try practising marching and playing songs simultaneously. It's quite hard for brass players. But please take note thet your marching should be more important than your instrument playing as you can pretend to play but you cant pretend to march so your marching needs to be uniform with the other bandsmen.

Sec2s, you can do it!

hi, its me again.
okay. we're the first band of 02 april, i guess you guys know that.
So here's the whole day's order of appearance. (for the first half only.)

SJI
Anderson
Canberra
Marsiling
Chung Cheng (Yishun)

BREAK

Northbrooks
Queensway
SCGS
Bowen
St. Andrew's

ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS

Our dear marsiling is playing two bands after us. okay.
being the first band of the day sets the standard, according to mrs chua. if we play well, the others will do well. If we do badly, the others will do badly. What should we do? play well la, duh.

okay. since we're waiting for results (are we?) we have to wait till st. andrews finishes, then the results will be announced. gah. the suspense. being the first band of the day, well, sucks in a way, but use it to your advantage. i havent figured out how yet though, but yeah.

im waiting to see that moment of joy, of success. but for now, lets work for it.

SJIMB, now and forever.

Note that all these are opt., u can leave anytime if u wish to and you can join us anytime, please give us your no. and take ours (by we I mean anyone in the batch, preferably someone who has many contacts *cough* Samuel *cough* and not someone who doesn't have his phone with him *cough* me *cough*.

We are on a tight schedule, by thurs must confirm the type of outing, then one day to settle parental consent, friday for safety, sat, all the small things will be settled and we're done, I wanted to keep planning within band hours but, better to plan slightly ahead.

Exchange
Hurray for SJIMB again! Today's performance was very good, but don't be too confident yet. Still, we played our best so far. Someone even commented that we could attain gold w/honours. I know we're not supposed to look at the "score" and just play the "game", but this is a big improvement. But, as Mrs Chua said, it's like a mountain. From the bottom, you climb up slowly and reach the top. After that, there's no where to go except down. Music is not rigid. It's not about having correct timing, correct notes, correct this, correct that, correct everything. It's something you enjoy, something you love. Something you can flow with, something you can use to express your feelings. As you're playing Jericho, flow with the music. Feel the grief of the Exile, the boldness and intensity of the Battle, the serenity of the Victory, and the joy of Celebration. You have to feel the music. When this is achieved, everything will fall naturally into place. The anxiousness of speeding up or slowing down, the worry of playing wrong notes, the tiredness, breathlessness and pain will all fade and disappear. You will be surprised, finding yourself play flawlessly and effortlessly. There will be no anxiety nor fear nor nervousness. Nothing. Just you, the band, and the music facing the audience.

Fill the hall with our effervescent music, full of joyful and unrestrained spirits. Stupefy the judges with our exuberant resonance. Awe the audience with our affluent sounds. Amaze our teachers with our vivacious melodies and crystal-clear articulation, and astonish ourselves with our stupendous expertise and proficiency.

We can do it. No matter what. We'll soar and reach, for the skies.

batch outing
Batch outing.
can we have a proper soccer match instead of the screwed up games we play every time after parade where there are like 38951780189759035 people on the pitch?
or we can go mug as a batch.\

if seniors dont like that then we can
go west coast/east coast park,
fly kite/play sand/build sandcastle/play beach soccer/stone.
then have picnic yays.
then also can play beach ball in the sea. then watch sunset on the beach.
and find seashells and stuff.

the point is, we have to do something constructive. help our batch bond.
right now our batch is like a glue factory without glue.
we need to stick together, haha.

seriously, we have to do something.
like joshua said, since it's our first outing, we can start with simpler stuff.
but sport doesnt count as an outing, though it builds teamwork.

why not we sit train from jurong to pasir ris then woodlands to marina bay

ya so we should really try our best to at least think about what we should do.
no lan, no movies. (i wonder why)
ya also go somewhere cheap.

my suggestion is the beach ._.

those who want to play can play soccer,
those who want to eat can have picnic,
those who want to do nothing can stone and enjoy view and breeze.

what better place than the beach?

Batch Outing No.1 op.01
I told LCP Thaddaeus that if we went ice-skating for this, 96% ppl would not go. Why, cause most of our batch doesn't want a batch outing. Last time we tried, Brian Danni not happy, scream up scream down, complain this complain that. If LAN cannot then ice-skating... nvm. Anyways, the sec 3s are going out of their way to help us with this and I think we should try and actually do this ourselves, not because i'm scared of being treated like a kid, but it's because I think it is inappropriate to concern others with all the problems of our batch. Right now, we got Dusk who cannot make it to second floor without 5 people around him so ice-skating is a very good suggestion, as they say, two rights make a wrong; two broken legs might bring a heal if it doesn't re-break the other one.(just wish Dusk a get well soon) We already are one man and one designer down so I hope everyone will participate actively. What the sec 3s have in mind is cycling, ice-skating and some equally ambitious whatnot. I think we should start small with this so maybe badminton or soccer, something at a more simple location. LCP Benedick and Thaddaeus don't like this idea but I think it is only right that we start small. If anyone got better ideas can go sms >>> SAMUEL CHONG <<< or tag on board.

Clash of the Bands
SYF is approaching. Only a month left. From the very first time I heard SJIMB till now, I feel and I know that we have improved tremendously. Our tone, articulation, pitch, etc has reached a whole new level. However, we must not be complacent. You might think that we have already attained a gold standard but my section's tutor Ms Ong told my section something that we really should know: other school bands are also improving like us. Our current standards could have gotten us a Gold maybe in the SYF 2 or 4 years ago but times have changed. Other bands have changed. So if we want to assure ourselves that we really get this gold, we really need to practise doubly hard. Go to the bandroom whenever you are free. If not, bring your instrument back home and practise at least 15 minutes a day. We can't wait any longer. Work on parts in Jericho or Overture that you are weak at. Maintain or improve the parts which you are already good at. We must give our 100%. For our sec 3 and 4 seniors who will be playing for SYF with SJIMB for their last time, and also for ourselves. If we attain a Gold, you want to walk out of Singapore Concert Hall proud because you know that you have done your part and given your best and not be a parasite and get the gold because of other bandsmens' hardwork. This is a team effort. Every person is important. A 4th part of the song is equally important as the 1st part. So do not have the menality that you suck because you are playing the 3rd of 4th part. Lower parts are meant to support the higher parts. They are the foundations. So sec2s, work hard. The day is approaching. We must and we will be prepared to fight this battle! We will stand strong against the judges. We will show them who is the best!

--

Sec2s who are not involved in SYF, you guys need to practise alot too. You still have a second chance in sec4. So start practising and by sec4, your skills will be at a way higher level than now.

SJIMB for the win!

The True Path
I kind of listened to Mrs Chua's speech about the 20,000 high score thing. (My apologies to all non-chinese who could not understand her.) Anyway, it makes sense that we should not be aiming for gold or to kick XXXXX's or XX XXXXXXX band's XXX. We shoud take a lighter approach to this. So now, with the help of my SL Glen, I'm trying to relay the story of Jericho and the (made-up) story of overture to the audience or whoever listens to it. It is mostly impossible due to the lack of creativity of humans but still, I want them to feel something. And that is what I think we must do, aim to play good music, that's all. To hell with the medal, all this is about us and the audience. We must make them feel the music, feel the intensity of the battle (which I actually did at Serangoon), the grief of exile, the glory of victory, the elasion of celebration and the grand sounds of overture. If they feel something from what we play, if they sway with our music, if they even break the slightest smile after we play our pieces, then I am satisfied. I think that is what we should aim for.
